How do I describe such a night? As you step off the ferry, in our case a water taxi filled with band equipment, the first thing you notice is the serene beauty of the Toronto Islands with yachts lining the shore. You make your way toward the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, the white iconic building from 1906, and you can’t help but feel the weight of its history and the sailing story's and adventures it could share. The air is filled with the smooth, inviting tones of jazz, that's us, creating an atmosphere of effortless sophistication as the crowd makes its way from the ferry to the outdoor soirée that's waiting, with tables dressed with white tableclothes and trays of cocktails to welcome them.


Servers, dressed in classic black and white, glide through the crowd with delicious appetizers, adding to the sense of elegance. And then there’s the music— we, the band play vibrant Latin rhythms and lively swing tunes that really ramp the energy up. You see people swaying in the summer breeze, laughing, and fully immersing themselves in the moment and dancing a little.


As the evening unfolds and the vibrant sun dips below the CN Tower, the city of Toronto begins to sparkle across the lake. The skyline lights up, casting a dazzling dance of glittering lights that reflects the wavy dark water. The city lights glow in the distance, adding a cool backdrop as we play sweet jazz music that wafts magically across the water that is dotted with billowing sails.


It’s a perfect blend of history, cool jazz, and breathtaking views as sailboats and ducks float past. The jazz fills the air, the skyline shines brightly, and the night becomes a a glorious celebration of all that makes the RCYC and Toronto so special.
